Make your MB100 mastectomy bra comfortable all day. Spot the cause of rubbing, shifting or pressure and fix it with simple fit and care checks.
Quick answer
If your MB100 bra feels uncomfortable, check the band first, then the pocket and straps. Most daily-wear problems come from a loose band, a folded prosthesis or straps that are too tight, and you can usually fix them without buying a new bra.
Why the band, not the cup, decides daily comfort
A mastectomy bra carries weight differently from a standard bra. The band does most of the support work, so a band that rides up or twists will make the whole bra feel unstable even when the cup size seems right. Before you adjust anything else, fasten the bra and check that the band sits level around your ribcage and does not lift when you raise your arms.
The MB100 uses wide front straps to help hold the prosthesis. That design puts extra responsibility on the band: if the band is loose, the front straps cannot do their job and the bra may shift forward when you bend.
When the problem is the prosthesis, not the bra
A prosthesis that sits slightly outside the internal pocket can create a hard edge that rubs under the arm or against the chest wall. This is common after surgery when sensation is reduced, because you may not feel the shift until redness appears. Always place the prosthesis fully inside the pocket before fastening the bra, and smooth the pocket flat with your hand.
If the prosthesis is noticeably heavier on one side or does not match the pocket shape, no strap adjustment will make the bra comfortable. In that case, speak with your fitter or healthcare provider about a different prosthesis weight or shape rather than tightening the bra further.
Care habits that protect comfort and the pocket
The MB100 is made of nylon with an internal pocket. Nylon dries quickly, but heat and rough washing can distort the pocket or stretch the front straps. Wash it by hand in cool water with a mild detergent, press the water out gently without wringing, and dry it flat or hanging away from direct heat. Avoid fabric softener, which can coat the nylon and reduce the pocket's grip.
Rotate between at least two bras if you wear one daily, so the elastic can recover between wears. A bra that is still damp in the band or pocket will stretch faster and feel less stable.
Diagnose the discomfort: symptom, cause, fix, stop point
- Band rides up or twists: Symptom: the band lifts at the back or rolls under the bust. Likely cause: the band is too loose or stretched. Fix: fasten on a tighter hook and check that the band stays level when you raise your arms. If the tightest hook is still loose, the bra has lost elasticity. If the band still rides up on the tightest hook, stop adjusting and replace the bra.
- Pocket edge rubs or prosthesis shifts: Symptom: rubbing under the arm or the prosthesis feels off-center. Likely cause: the prosthesis is not fully inside the pocket or the pocket is folded. Fix: unfasten the bra, reseat the prosthesis inside the pocket, and smooth the pocket flat before fastening. If rubbing continues after reseating, check the prosthesis shape with your fitter before wearing it all day.
- Front straps dig in: Symptom: pressure or marks on the front shoulders. Likely cause: straps are adjusted too short or the band is too loose, forcing the straps to carry weight. Fix: loosen the straps and tighten the band one hook. If the straps still dig in, the cup or prosthesis may be too heavy for this style. Stop tightening straps to fix pressure; if the band adjustment does not help, ask about a different support style.
- Skin redness or irritation that does not fade: Symptom: redness, itching or soreness that remains after removing the bra. Likely cause: prolonged pressure, moisture, or a fit problem. Fix: take the bra off, let the skin dry, and check for folds or tight spots. Do not wear the bra again until the skin settles. If irritation persists or worsens, stop wearing the bra and consult your healthcare provider.
